Crude oil demulsifiers are divided into SP-type demulsifying additive, AP-type demulsifying additive, AE-type demulsifying additive and AR-type demulsifying additive.


1).The main component of SP-type demulsifying additive is polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene stearyl ether. The theoretical molecular formula is R(PO)x(EO)y(PO)zH, where: EO - polyoxyethylene; PO - polypropylene; R - fatty alcohol; x, y, z - degree of polymerization. The SP-type demulsifier appears as a light yellow paste, with an HLB value of 10 to 12 and is soluble in water.


2).AP-type demulsifying additive is polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene polyethers initiated by polyethylene polyamines. Demulsifier for industrial use is a multi-branched nonionic surfactant. The molecular formula is D(PO)x(EO)y(PO)zH, where: EO - polyoxyethylene; PO - polyoxypropylene; R - fatty alcohol; D - polyethylene polyamine; x, y, z - degree of polymerization.


3). AE-type demulsifying additive is polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene polyethers initiated by polyethylene polyamines. Industrial demulsifier additive is a multi-branched nonionic surfactant. Compared with AP-type demulsifier emulsion dewatering, the difference is that AE-type demulsifying additive is two-stage polymers with small molecular weights and short branches. The molecular formula is: D(PO)x(EO)yH, where: EO - polyoxyethylene; PO - polyoxypropylene; D - polyethylene polyamine; x, y - degree of polymerization.


4). AE is a two-stage multi-chain crude oil demulsifier emulsion dewatering treatment and is also suitable for demulsifying additive asphaltene crude oil emulsions. The more surface-active agents made from asphalt as raw materials, the greater the viscosity, the smaller the oil-water density difference and the more difficult it is to demulsify. However, the demulsification speed of using AE-type demulsifiers for industrial use is fast. At the same time, AE-type demulsifying additive is a better anti-wax viscosity reducer.


5). AR-type industrial demulsifier additive is composed of alkyl phenolic resin (AR resin), polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene polymers and a new oil-soluble nonionic demulsifier. The HLB value is 4 to 8 and the demulsification temperature is as low as 35 to 45 °C. The molecular formula is: AR(PO)x(EO)yH, where: EO - polyoxyethylene; PO - polyoxypropylene; AR - resin; x, y, z - degree of polymerization.

Anionic industrial demulsifier additive is carboxylates, sulfonates and polyoxyethylene fatty sulfate salts, etc. They have great effects but have the disadvantage of being easily affected by electrolytes; cationic demulsifier emulsion dewatering is mainly quaternary ammonium salts, which have a significant effect on thin oils but are not suitable for heavy oils and aged oils; nonionic demulsifier for industrial use mainly include block polyethers initiated by amines, block polyethers initiated by alcohols, alkyl phenolic resin block polyethers, phenolic resin block polyethers, silicon-containing demulsifiers, ultra-high molecular weight demulsifiers, polyphosphates, modified flame-retardant polyethers, and imidazoline products. Crude oil demulsifiers serve as representatives of two ionic demulsifiers.
